Starting on April 5, 2021, you will have immediate access to most test results and progress notes through your MyNortonChart account. New federal laws taking effect on that day require health care organizations to give patients immediate access to progress notes and test results as soon as they are completed. (These new laws do not replace existing federal and state laws that require health care organizations to delay the release of certain results that must be reviewed by a provider first.)

Why does this matter?

  • In the past, all test results and progress notes would be reviewed by a provider before being posted for the patient to see.
  • You may now see your test results before your provider has reviewed them. This means your provider will not have the opportunity to include notes to interpret and explain the results.
    • The progress notes or test results may include language that you find confusing.
    • Test results marked with an exclamation mark or flagged as “abnormal” may cause you unneeded concern.

It is important to remember that you should discuss your results with your provider. Don’t make any conclusions on your own based on reviewing your test results in MyNortonChart. Your provider understands why a test was requested, what the results mean and how the results will be used. Your provider will explain to you how the results relate to your overall health.

Be sure to let your provider know about any questions or concerns you have about your test results or progress notes. Sending a message through MyNortonChart is a simple and efficient way for you to contact your provider.

If you do not already have a MyNortonChart account, visit Nortonhealthcare.com/MyChart to register as a new user.

According to Travasha, she learned about MyNortonChart through her daughter Ja’Veyia’s pediatrician. She enrolled as a proxy for the little girl.

“I use it to manage her appointments,” Travasha said.

She likes that she can see her daughter’s medical record, make appointments with the pediatrician and pay medical bills from one portal online.

Travasha said she used the prize money to celebrate Ja’Veyia’s first birthday party in March.

After more than a month, health care providers are resuming nonurgent patient visits and surgeries — with added layers of safety protections.

Providers are working to contact patients to reschedule appointments, but the coronavirus-related backlog combined with careful adherence to new infection protection steps can mean delays. Providers’ offices advise that patients should feel free to call to schedule an appointment or message a provider through their free MyNortonChart account.

“We have systems in place to maximize safety,” said Ryan J. Krupp, M.D., orthopedic surgeon with Norton Orthopedic Institute. “We’re here for patients; we’re anxious and excited to get back and be able to take care of them in the way that we have become accustomed to. If you need something from us, please reach out … we’ll use all the tools we have at our disposal to get the job done.”

Norton Healthcare providers are working to reschedule patients and determine whether they need to come in or could take advantage of a Norton Telehealth video or phone visit.

“We have about 500 patients we’re contacting to make these appointments. Patients also should feel free to contact their providers so we can get them in,” said Christina M. Breit, M.D., internal medicine physician and a primary care provider with Norton Community Medical Associates – Mallard Creek.

Many providers have extended their availability into the evenings and on weekends.

“Most doctors are going to be open and more accessible than they were before this, just realizing the needs of patients who have maybe cut off some routine follow-ups that are now no longer routine,” Dr. Breit said.

According to Dr. Breit, as patients come in, she’s been seeing signs of delayed care — patients with more than just one acute issue or an issue that has been more involved than the patient initially thought when making the appointment.

For patients needing surgery or specialist care, providers are working with patients who already were scheduled for an appointment and weighing that with the urgency of the patient’s condition.

“We’re opening the doors; we’re bringing more patients in now; we’re using Norton Telehealth when appropriate. So call, get back on the books. It’s safe,” Dr. Krupp said.

Preparation for surgery is similar to the previous process, and safeguards have been added to protect patients and staff from the coronavirus.

Pre-admission work is being done remotely when possible, and all patients are being screened for COVID-19 when they’re scheduled for a procedure.

“We’ve got that information that we can then use to make sure that we are making decisions about surgery appropriately with each patient individually and taking precautions to minimize any risks,” Dr. Krupp said.

Who couldn’t use some help keeping track of your family’s health? When a new school year approaches, there are health forms, physicals, vaccinations and screenings to track down or schedule.

Ever wish you had a health personal assistant?

Proxy access through Norton MyChart can help you manage your family’s health information. This features allows parents to connect their Norton MyChart account with their children’s electronic medical records, giving them the ability to make appointments, get important reminders and send non-urgent messages to their care team. Setting it up is fast and easy. You can find the instructions here.

To get started, here are three ways you can manage your family’s health through Norton MyChart this summer and beyond. It just may become one of your favorite parenting hacks.

1.    Schedule back-to-school appointments via Norton MyChart

The most well-organized and prepared parents beat the summer rush to the pediatrician’s or family doctor’s office. The rest of us may be scrambling midsummer to get into the office in time.

Norton MyChart

Sign up for a Norton MyChart account, or get started with proxy access for your children.

Get Started

With proxy access through Norton MyChart, you can quickly and easily schedule an appointment for your child with your Norton Healthcare provider. To do this, sign in to Norton MyChart, click on your child’s name, choose visits, and complete the steps to set up an appointment with your child’s provider.

2.    Request immunization records via Norton MyChart

It’s an increasingly digital world, so when you leave the doctor’s office with your child’s immunization record in hand, and can’t find it on the first day back to school, don’t worry. You’re not alone.

Send a message to your child’s provider through Norton MyChart and request your child’s immunization record be sent to the school via mail or fax. Just be sure to include specific instructions on where to send it and to whom it should be addressed.

3.    Get notified when your child is due for screenings or vaccinations

Ever feel that twinge of guilt or surprise when you take your child in for an office visit and find out he or she is overdue for vaccines or screenings? Proxy access via Norton MyChart is a fix for that.

When you sign into Norton MyChart and click on your child’s name, you’ll receive notifications that your child is due for important vaccines and other screenings. Be sure to verify your contact information and select either email or text notifications.

A variety of key health reports and updates provided by MyNortonChart are available in the iPhone Health app. Now, the app’s Health Records feature can collect information from different hospitals and clinics to make it easier for patients to access their medical information from multiple providers whenever they choose.

Once you connect your Health Records account, MyNortonChart can securely supply information in seven categories: allergies, clinical vitals, conditions, immunizations, lab results, medications and procedures.

Collect information from multiple providers in one place

Typically, medical records from various care providers are held in multiple locations. That has meant users had to sign into each provider one at a time and collect information piecemeal. With Health Records on iPhone, patients can access medical information more easily from participating institutions and see it organized into one view. Users will be able to receive notifications when their data is updated.

“We strive to provide comprehensive quality care for our patients, which includes providing access to critical information. It’s good to know they can now get this information easily even when their care may happen outside our system,” said James T. Jennings, M.D., Norton Community Medical Associates – Brownsboro.

Connecting MyNortonChart to the Health app

MyNortonChart

Whether you’re at work, on the road or at home, you can communicate with your providers, renew prescriptions, track appointment information and more in MyNortonChart. All information is stored securely.

Apple Health has been a standard iPhone app since model six. The Health Records feature is found in the app’s Health Data section. Once you select and activate the Health Records feature, you will find Norton Healthcare listed among the providers who have opted to connect with the feature.

Health Records data is encrypted and protected. Users are required to provide an iPhone passcode, Touch ID or Face ID.

MyNortonChart will still be your “go to” tool for tasks such as securely communicating with providers, scheduling appointments, checking test results, renewing prescriptions and paying a bill. The data you see collected in Health Records will still be available directly from MyNortonChart.

Norton Healthcare has introduced three new features to monitor and keep track of your health 24/7 through MyNortonChart.

MyNortonChart gives you convenient online access to portions of your medical record. Whether you’re at home, at work or on the road, you can view your lab results, schedule appointments, refill prescriptions, communicate with your provider and more.

In addition to these convenient features, you can now:

  • Access all your providers from your account
  • Store all your pertinent health information
  • Share your health information with other providers

Access all your providers

Do you see other providers outside of the Norton Healthcare system? You can now link your health record from another system’s MyChart account to your Norton Healthcare MyNortonChart account using a single username and password.

Why does this matter? Let’s say you see a specialist in North Carolina. With your MyNortonChart username and password, you can conveniently link your records from the out-of-state health provider and any other provider outside of Norton Healthcare under one account.

Store all your health information

MyNortonChart now gives you a permanent home to organize all of your medical information. This personal health record contains information about allergies, medications, medical conditions and other important notes about your health. Data in your personal health record can be shared with other health providers, such as your dentist or dermatologist. This tool can be accessed by scrolling over the “Health” tab and clicking on “Lucy” under Medical Tools.

Why does this matter? If you have a condition that requires regular testing, such as biopsies with a dermatologist, the test results can be stored in “Lucy.” You then can share the results with your Norton Healthcare provider.

Share your health information with other providers

“Share Everywhere” allows you to share your records with just about anyone, such as a specialist, chiropractor, social worker, physical therapist, dentist or school nurse. This function gives others the ability to see your health record summary and clinical data, as well as submit a note to your care team. This tool can be accessed by scrolling over the “Health” tab, and clicking on “Share My Record.”

Why does this matter? Let’s say you have a herniated disc in your back and are seeking therapy from a chiropractor. You can grant your chiropractor access to your MyNortonChart account so he or she can view test results, procedure reports or medications related to your back.
